In this training course, you will acquire fundamental knowledge in the fields of functional safety and system safety, along with initial practical implementation know‑how through hands‑on examples. In addition, you will gain an overview of relevant international safety standards and norms, as well as the methods and approaches referenced therein. Upon completion of this training, you will be able to contribute effectively to projects in safety‑critical environments.

 

Course Content:

Module 1: Introduction to the World of Safety

Motivation for safety – the human factor – legal aspects – overview of safety standards – prerequisites for safety – safety culture and safety roles

Module 2: Basic Terminology

System boundaries, interfaces – fault chain (fault–error–failure) – hazards (causal factor, hazard)

Module 3: Risk Assessment and Analysis Methods

Concept and representation of risk – principles of risk reduction (ALARP, GAMAP, MEM) – systematic hazard and risk analysis methods – application of risk graphs

Module 4: Functional Safety and Failure Probabilities

Failure rates (MTTF, MTBF, MTTR) – redundancy, diversity, HFT, SFF – safety integrity concepts and classification

Module 5: Process Approaches for System Safety

Safety assurance (safety case) – safety lifecycle – holistic ISaPro approach
