Upgrade Certified Auditor according to ISO 19011 & ISO 17021 – Lead Auditor TÜV®
This advanced training program is designed for internal auditors who wish to qualify for conducting external audits in accordance with ISO 17021 and ISO 19011, and to expand their competencies as Lead Auditors.
In this upgrade course, you will deepen your expertise based on the requirements of ISO 19011 and ISO 17021. You will gain confidence in planning and conducting complex, value-adding audits, as well as in leading audit teams. The training further strengthens your auditing skills through practical exercises and discussions of challenging audit scenarios.

Internal quality, environmental, and safety auditors, as well as HSEQ representatives and managers, who have completed basic auditor training and wish to deepen their qualifications or obtain authorization to conduct external audits.
The admission requirements for the certification exam are
- Completion of the TÜV AUSTRIA Academy training program “Certified Internal Quality Auditor, Internal Environmental Auditor, or Internal Safety Auditor (TÜV®)” (minimum attendance of 80% required), or an equivalent training program comprising at least 24 training units.
- Proof of regular auditing experience (conducting at least three audits)
- Completion of the TÜV AUSTRIA Academy training program “Upgrade to Auditor according to ISO 19011 & ISO 17021 – Lead Auditor” (minimum attendance of 80% required), or an equivalent training program comprising at least 24 training units.
- The application for certification
The certification exam takes place after the end of the seminar and is a written exam (multiple choice).
Upon successful completion of the certification examination and fulfillment of all admission requirements, candidates will receive the TÜV AUSTRIA Personal Certificate Auditor according to ISO 19011 & ISO 17021, which is valid for a period of five years.

To extend your certificate for another five years, you need to present:
- the application for recertification
- Proof of specialist continuing education comprising at least 8 training units; alternatively, a written examination
(Continuing education courses completed within 2 years prior to and up to 6 months after the expiration of the certification are recognized.) - Proof of at least two years of practical experience involving regular work as a Auditor according to ISO 19011 & ISO 17021; alternatively, a professional interview (expert assessment).
(The practical experience must have been gained during the period between certification and re‑certification; it does not have to be continuous.)
The application and supporting documents may be submitted no earlier than 6 months before and no later than 6 months after the
expiration of the certificate.
