In order to prevent corrosion, knowledge about the different corrosion mechanisms is needed. The goal of this training course is to provide the basics to understand the different corrosion forms and tools how to prevent corrosion in practice.
The first part of the course deals with the fundamentals of corrosion. We believe that basic knowledge of corrosion theory facilitates understanding of the different corrosion mechanisms. The course is illustrated with examples of failure cases so that the participant learns how to recognize the different forms. In the third part the focus is on corrosion prevention and mitigation. An overview of the different engineering materials will be given together with their use and limitations. Other means of corrosion prevention that are included in this course are the use of inhibitors (treating the medium), galvanic protection, coatings and liners (reducing the metals’ vulnerability).
